"A project close to our heart is an Italian inspired villa in the countryside of Birmingham, Alabama. Two things were important to our clients: they wanted a stone house and an antique clay tile roof. Once we found the antique barrel tile roof, the Mediterranean influence was obvious and gave direction to the rest of the project. The house is laid out on 2 1/2 acres perched upon a hill in a rural setting just outside of the city. The one room deep house is organized with a strong axis in two directions, connecting each room. The abundance of steel doors fills the house with natural light while making a strong affiliation between the indoor spaces and the landscape of the outdoors."
