The Handmade Kitchen Company has been established since 1999, providing truly bespoke kitchens and whole-home furniture. They design and build all their cabinetry in-house, with designs carried out at their Bishop’s Stortford showroom and cabinetry handcrafted by their own experienced workshop team in Essex, ensuring attention to detail. Showroom consultations take place to go through the finer details with their clients and interior designers, where it is possible to view furniture, appliances and accessories to complete the project.
Installation is carried out by the HMK Co. team and then hand-painted on-site in the client’s choice of colour – there really are no limitations to colour, design, style and bespoke prototyping is possible to provide one-off pieces. Clients are encouraged to visit their showroom to appreciate the designs and quality of the finish.

"Recently we had the opportunity to work with a client in the field of interior design and styling – Charlotte from Style Sisters / Build&Style, producing a beautiful kitchen for her, in our unique handleless Mapesbury style. The kitchen and utility rooms both included some interesting and unique design elements, coming from our client’s vision for not only an amazing final appearance but with functionality in mind too.
In our client’s own words, 'We are so happy with our kitchen it was worth the months of planning, sourcing the pieces to complete the overall look and style of the kitchen, it’s everything I dreamed of and more!'
The bright and welcoming space was key for this project, and incorporating bespoke design features for a unique look and maximum storage was a must! Our Mapesbury collection is a handleless design where large moulded doors are the focal point, accentuating the paint colour chosen.
The choice of layout suits this space perfectly as it provides a clean and simple look, and crucially makes way for the ‘hidden’ utility room. Slate 1 by Paint and Paper Library is the colour chosen – an architectural colour that is just so beautiful and works wonders in this clean and bright space.
The heart of the space is the island as it transcends purpose with flawless functionality and beautiful aesthetics. The positioning of the range cooker, dishwasher and sink area, allowed for the kitchen’s perimeter to include distinctive elements like a breakfast pantry and a secret hidden door leading to the utility.
For the range cooker of dreams, the ILVE Majestic Milano sits centre stage, combined with large over-mantle and the Honed Marble splashback elevating the design and providing unparalleled beauty and elegance to the interior, making it a statement piece in this hub of the home.
A detail that has seen over 40 million views on Instagram, is the utility room through secret doors in the kitchen. The utility room features pull-out drying racks and pull-out shelves below the washing machine and dryer, offering fantastic functionality.
We are delighted with the outcome; the project truly exemplifies the high standard we consistently strive for. We are immensely proud to have worked with Charlotte and to have delivered a kitchen that not only meets but surpasses our already high expectations. This project is a testament to our team’s dedication to excellence."
