About Us

Kingcome Sofas’ luxury upholstered furniture has been handmade in our Devon workshop for 50 years. Kingcome offers elegant, timeless designs of sofas, chairs and stools, all of which can be made-to-measure; including as corner seating, chaise units and genuinely comfortable sofa beds.

The Kingcome team pride themselves on their personalised service, meticulous care, attention to detail, and a steadfast commitment to comfort, quality and longevity. They are genuinely proud that Kingcome’s furniture is ‘handmade in England’ in every sense of the phrase.

All of the furniture made in Kingcome's Devon workshop is handcrafted by a 40-strong team of skilled craftspeople, whose disciplines range from cabinet making, carpentry, woodturning, polishing, pattern cutting, upholstery, machine sewing and hand sewing. At Kingcome, they can tell you exactly which of their talented team made each element of a sofa – from the handcrafted frame and fabric cutting right down to who upholstered it.

Founded in 1971 in Totnes, Devon by charismatic WWII flying ace Group Captain Brian Kingcome and his wife Lesley, a former Vogue model, Kingcome is today a British institution with a long heritage of producing exceptional furniture.

“Kingcome’s design team, led by Frank Phipps, has decades of experience working with leading interior designers on prestigious, yet often confidential, bespoke projects. Our beautifully crafted and comfortable furniture can be found worldwide in superyachts and premium hotels, palaces and stately homes.

We work closely with interior designers at all stages to ensure their design brief becomes reality. Whilst respecting the design concept, our design team are experienced in advising how each element of the furniture specifications translate to the feel and comfort of the finished piece. We take great care to ensure that furniture is not only stylish, but genuinely comfortable.

Design briefs are reinterpreted using hand drawings as well as cad drawings. Samples and prototypes are provided as necessary, and visits to our Devon workshop to view pieces in progress are always welcome.”
