About Us

The Design Archives is the brainchild of Sharon Crowson whose family business, Crowson Fabrics, established in 1978, became one of the world’s leading producers, designers and suppliers of home furnishings. Sharon has taken on the huge archive of designs collected by her father and has created a number of collections bringing to life some of the archive’s most beautiful designs. Printed on quality base cloths - linen, velvet and cotton sateen, all fabrics are developed and produced in the UK. This year also sees the arrival of the brand's first wallpaper collection.

How would you describe your style?

"The Design Archives is all about pattern, colour and texture. Working from the archive we are creating designs that have a classic heritage but giving them a contemporary twist with bold colouring and scale, as seen in the Shala fabric collection which offers a diverse and vibrant range of textile choices."

Please describe a recently completed project or tell us about the bespoke service that you offer

"Seeing fabric on walls is something that Sharon originally encountered as a child visiting a house in France, where she was entranced with the idea and the memory stayed on - the result being her bespoke paper-backed fabric wallcovering service. Re-energising this product with traditional battening, it offers both decorative and effective noise insulation for both commercial and residential spaces. The company launched the Birchgrove Collection, its first dedicated wallpaper collection featuring a reinterpretation of a selected few of the brand's most popular designs, as well as a complementary textured plain to provide a complete wallpaper solution for interior projects."
