About Us

Founded in 1992 by Steve and Christina Roberts in the heart of North Devon, Turnstyle Designs is a global leader in creating high-quality, design-led hardware. Still privately owned by the Roberts Family, the business is now run by their eldest son Oscar. Turnstyle makes each individual piece by hand, their skilled craftspeople combine precision engineering and traditional artisan techniques. An ever-growing collection includes interior door, cabinet and window hardware.

The team has a wealth of experience working closely with interior designers on prime residential projects, hospitality specifications, and the superyacht industry. The core range contains over 20,000 unique combinations to choose from and the option to create completely unique bespoke designs ensures they can tailor their product to suit each project specification.

Continually striving to be a responsible business, and giving back to the local community has always been at the heart of the company ethos. Turnstyle Designs is proud to be a member of ‘1% For The Planet’ and the ‘North Devon UNESCO Biosphere’, donating at least 2% of its annual turnover to environmental organisations and mental health charities.

Turnstyle Designs trades globally via its London showroom and dedicated network of dealerships.

How would you describe your style?

"Designing everything in-house has allowed Turnstyle to always maintain a strong design style. A key characteristic of our design language is contrast. The ability to combine different materials allows us to find the balance between organic texture and clean engineered lines. We have worked with almost every material imaginable over the years and are always looking for new challenges to take on."

"Turnstyle have always prided ourselves on our ability to say ‘yes’ to enquiries. We have a highly creative and technically capable in-house team of design engineers who enjoy rising to the challenge of complex briefs. As a result of this, the scope of products we manufacture often far exceeds what we show in our core range with custom work accounting for 35% of our business.

Starting from initial concepts we will work with our clients to ensure that the products not only meet their design and performance expectations but are also delivered on budget. This can range from utilising existing engineering from within the core range and adapting it to suit the brief or a fully custom ground-up design. We can develop CAD drawings and 3D prototypes through to fully operational samples as the process progresses.

Our experience and capability to work with new and existing materials are second to none.

Recently we worked with the team at Wimbledon as they were refurbishing the clubhouse at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. The brief was to design a range of handles that drew inspiration from the wrap detail of old-fashioned tennis racquet grip. Due to projected heavy use and the complicated design we ended up choosing not to use leather but to cast the end result in our unique Amalfine TM. This allowed us to showcase the same intricate textural detail as hide would, but would prove to be much more durable in high traffic areas."
