"I started The Country Child's Co as I couldn’t find any shades with strong quality engaging images for my son. I was inspired by my mother who drew dogs on parchment candle shades with ink" says Lillias of The Country Child's Co. Lillias' lampshades are based on Victorian children's illustration, they invite and encourage children to imagine and wrap a story round the characters on the shades and examine the line drawings details; the wonderful simplicity of the line allows the imagination to engage more deeply with the images.
The Country Child's Co uses organic cotton and water based eco inks to screen print- with environmental packaging, recycling, and the reuse of materials an integral part of the brand's ethos.
Lillias lives on Dartmoor and wants to help sustain the diversity of the area- a desire which feeds into the drawings on the lampshades. 1.5% of each item sold is donated to MoorTrees Charity who grow trees from locally collected seeds and then use them to recreate woodland on Dartmoor and in South Devon.
The Country Child's Co sources, makes, packs and delivers with the environment in mind and is always seeking new ways to further reduce the impact of everything they do.

How would you describe your style?
"From my Dartmoor workshop, I make modern classic children's lampshades. I silk screen and hand-paint organic cotton to make lampshades which feature Mr Toad and Mr Frog, The Cat and The Fiddle, 3 Ways to Ride, Frogs Reaching for Skies. Hand-painted, no two are alike, they invite and inspire children to imagine stories to wrap around the characters. Each shade comes with a tag hinting of the start of a story. They refresh and give a new focal point in a child's bedroom which they can ponder as they lay in bed, sweet dreams!
Lampstands are painted in strong colours with a cheerful vintage red twisted flex."

"I am very happy to discuss specific colour schemes which may be required, or print on fabric supplied by the customer to keep within an existing theme and am always happy to discuss possible changes to options or designs to help you create something truly unique.
Specific requests reagarding the painting I do on the images themselves can be done to the requirements of the customer.
The lampstands are painted with Annie Sloan colours, and are completed with a signature vintage red twisted fabric flex. Currently on the website are three popular colours, but both the fluted and acorn lampstands, can be painted to any colour, be stained or left plain."
