"The client appointed us as principal contractors, interior designers and architectural joiners for the restoration and addition of an extension to a detached stone Victorian villa in Edinburgh, set within extensive walled gardens.

The project involved restoring the original house and gardens with a new extension incorporating a large open-plan kitchen/dining/living area, study and master en-suite bedroom.

To the rear, the new extension is distinct from but also unifies all elements of the house, old and new, in a low-lying form.  Working in partnership with award-winning architecture practice Roxburgh McEwan, our client's main objective was to create a strong connection to the garden.  As keen gardeners, it was central to the design that views of the garden dominate through large elements of glazing, allowing the internal spaces to feel like part of the landscape of the interlinking gardens.   The extension has a stone colonnade across its main elevation, offering covered external spaces for the client to enjoy 360-degree views of the garden which also incorporates a perennial kitchen garden.

The home's interior design was led by David MacDonald of Laurence McIntosh, who applied his skills to create living spaces that reflect both an appreciation of the traditional and contemporary, with the highest quality of finish at the core of every aspect of the project."
