About Us

Muza Lab, founded by Inge Moore and Nathan Hutchins in 2016, creates multi-faceted hotels, superyachts, luxury developments, and private residential projects. Their designs are tactile, interwoven with the tales of their surroundings; every dimension of a space is meticulously crafted to enchant and inspire.

The Muza Lab team allow their curiosity to wander the landscape, taking in the natural forms, legends, and legacies that weave the rich tapestry of a culture, ultimately bringing to life designs that are not only built to last—but to deliver truly memorable experiences. Inge and Nathan have their own individual strengths, but with a unified vision, they are not afraid to challenge the ordinary and listen to the dialogue and rhythm of their surroundings.

Their spaces are where people go to share special moments with those most precious to them. The aim is simple: to make these moments rich with feelings that can’t be shaken; to create settings for stories that are held close to the heart, and told again and again. Muza Lab projects have no preconceived ideas, and the design process from conception to completion is always a collaborative adventure.

Notable projects include: Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro; Peru’s Andean Explorer; Mandarin Oriental Residences, Barcelona; Eagle Island Lodge, Botswana; Finolhu Baa Atoll, Maldives; Kanuhura Resort, Maldives; Rocco Forte, Shanghai; plus numerous residences for private clients. Most recent works include a 1930s classic superyacht MY Marala, the One&Only Cape Town Hotel, Mandarin Oriental Residencies in Barcelona, and Private Residence in Cape Town.

"Set between the ocean and Table Mountain, One&Only Cape Town has an unparalleled location in this vibrant, multicultural city. Inspired by the shapes, sounds, textures and colours of the surroundings—a kaleidoscope of people, cultures and crafts—the design breathes the essence of the Cape.

Muza Lab designed the Signature Suites, Presidential Suite, and the Vista Lounge and Bar of the One&Only Cape Town, incorporating and emphasising the natural beauty of South Africa’s southwest coast, bringing this into the rooms.

When redesigning the two principal suites, they explored the great Sea Forest in one and the rich biodiversity of Table Mountain in the other. Warm tones, soft curves, and playful pieces with deeper meaning—like a table in the form of an endangered frog—characterise the space. While attunement to nature is one part of a story, rich history is another.

The topography of the mountains inspires the pattern of the carpets; the underwater forest of native bamboo kelp is reflected in the intricate, handcrafted forms and fabrics around the hotel; and the African night sky—a blanket of millions of stars, planets, and constellations—is honoured in accents of subtle sparkle.

All these natural elements have such amazingly strong shapes, textures and colours that are celebrated in Muza Lab’s design. Giving local designers and artists the resources to craft unique products means that all art is being locally sourced and made. By weaving together these elements, they create a space and destination embedded in the Cape and a resort that cultivates lasting memories."
