About Us
Robert Couturier, Inc. is a full-service architecture and interior design office predominantly geared towards high-end residential projects. We work locally in New York City, throughout the United States, and internationally in Europe, Asia, and South America. Robert's design philosophy has always been to closely listen to the client’s ideas about how the space should feel and interpret while not imposing a design aesthetic onto them. It is the merging of his wide-ranging design knowledge with the client's desires and requirements that creates the most interesting and dynamic interiors. We can work in any desired style or time period if we strive for the best in both design and quality of the execution. Robert Couturier has been in business as an interior designer in New York City for over 35 years.
How would you describe your style?
"My style is about creating interiors of great quality. Whether it be the design of a kitchen or the details of an upholstered piece of furniture, we always strive for the best which, in the end, makes for seamless, chic, and calm interiors."
Please describe a recently completed project or tell us about the bespoke service that you offer
“We recently completed a small project for a contemporary Japanese ceramic dealer and her husband in an art deco building on Central Park West here in New York City. The client’s brief was to reinterpret and redesign a living room and adjoining library and sunroom, to be more in line with their current way of living than when they first moved into the apartment twenty years ago. There was an advantage in that, being in the apartment for so long, they knew all the aspects of it - what they liked and what they wanted to adjust - there was no guessing! We completely changed the furniture layout, incorporating many of the client's art deco pieces and adding 1940s French upholstered pieces in fabrics from Europe and Africa. Layering onto this the client's Japanese ceramics and 19th-century American painting collection, we were able to create a fresh and contemporary interior that totally reflected the client's aesthetic in an environment they had never imagined possible."
