McKinnon and Harris was founded more than 30 years ago, in 1991, with the mission to elevate and inspire our clients, homeowners and colleagues through art, design and craftsmanship. We have built a legacy of handcrafting original, timeless designs of estate, garden, and yacht furniture for exceptional performance.
Our high-performance aluminium furniture is made to order by master craftspeople at our workshop in Richmond, Virginia. It is engineered, designed, and meticulously built to remain outdoors year-round in the most aggressive exterior environments. In this era of compromise, shortcuts, and mass production, we are committed to crafting furniture of exacting standards and timeless design to endure, outlast, and outperform all other exterior furniture.
Our motto has always been—“we don’t want to be the biggest outdoor furniture maker in the world, we just want to be the best.” We consider it a tremendous privilege to craft our enduring furniture for our clients and their families.
How would you describe your style?
"We originally started this business with the aim of designing a timeless aesthetic that referenced classical furniture but was transitional. The furniture would be heirloom quality, enjoyed by generations, resisting the whims of trend and the passage of time. Every piece needed to be a design chameleon in that it could fit a traditional setting as well as in a modern, contemporary one. We based our first designs — Gothic, Keswick, and Chinoiserie, on traditional English garden furniture.
Today, our approach to design hasn’t changed as much as the technologies and processes we use to create them. We continue to see interest and desire for our more modern collections, like the deCamp, evoking impressions of 1930s Art Deco, midcentury, and contemporary design."
