About Us

TedWood is a furniture and lighting design studio come workshop nestled in an ancient oak woodland. Established By Ted Jefferis in 2013 TedWood is a manifestation of his lifelong affinity with wood. His designs display the unique beauty that British timbers offer. They are incredibly well made and striking to admire whilst being relaxing and easy to live with. As a result, they can be the centrepiece of any room or sit quietly in a corner. Ted’s designs encourage touch and interaction with subtle considered details.

Every item is designed by Ted and then handcrafted to order in his fourth-generation workshop. Whether it’s a stunning book-matched dining table or a beautiful bedhead all the timber is hand selected for the specific item. Ted works alongside a small team of skilled craftsmen that share his love of wood. The result is elegant and sustainable heirloom quality furniture that will only get better with age.

TedWood offers an award-winning collection of furniture and lighting designs that are available to order. They hold a stock of some items with other things being handcrafted to order. The entire collection offers clients the opportunity to choose from a variety of British timbers, colours and surface finishes. Alongside this, the collection is completely customisable in terms of size and material.

TedWood also creates bespoke commissions for when a completely unique item is desired for that extra special space. If a bespoke commission is desired Ted will work closely with the client whether that is an interior designer, architect or private individual. He has a deep-seated understanding of how furniture interacts with its interior and what can be made from wood. Ted also has access to the most spectacular British timber for your bespoke commission.

If you would like to view our furniture and lighting or discuss a bespoke commission then our showroom and workshop is in Bosham, West Sussex and are open by appointment.

How would you describe your style?

"When I design an item of furniture I intend to display the beauty of wood. I combine this natural asset with elegant contemporary lines. I then develop details using traditional joinery. The result is beautiful, pleasing, lovingly made items that make a statement, whilst looking like they belong."

Please describe a recently completed project or tell us about the bespoke service that you offer

"We recently made a truly bespoke dining table for clients in the New Forest. On their farm are a pair of the oldest trees in the forest. Named Adam and Eve, the trees are mentioned in the Doomsday Book and are at least 900 years old. One summer a huge branch fell off Eve, this is a rare phenomenon called summer branch drop where oak trees ‘drop’ branches if they are subject to drought, but the tree continues to live on.

Rather than being cut into firewood, this enormous branch was sawn into boards and air-dried. We then kilned the timber and set about making a completely unique live-edge dining table from the wood. The design was developed with the clients over a number of meetings on site and at our studio. The table was intended to sit in the client's kitchen which is in a converted barn. Inspiration was taken from the timber frame of the barn and the design of the base featured traditional joinery, grown ‘crook’ timbers, dovetail keys as well as mortice and tenons. The top was crafted from just 2 boards, perfectly joined in the centre with the natural live edge of the tree left exposed. The result was a table that is distinctively modern but completely ancient at the same time."
