Tom Simpson Design is a multi-award-winning landscape and garden design studio creating truly personal spaces, uniquely tailored to each client’s specific needs and desires. Gardens are living spaces for people to enjoy that help us relax and improve our lives. The company's aim is to create the best and most beautiful gardens that their clients will fall in love with.

The studio’s approach is tailored to each individual project, taking careful consideration of the garden’s setting and surrounding landscape. A deep appreciation of the style of architecture that adjoins the garden is key to how they work; each garden must complement and enhance its setting. They work with a broad range of styles, creating spaces that excite with bold contemporary design, as well as spaces that are sympathetic to the period features of listed buildings.

The studio is led by Principal Designer, Tom Simpson who has been awarded three Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medals as well as Best In Show at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

With the studio based in London, they work on a portfolio of projects across the country and internationally. Their projects range from small town gardens to large country estates. They have broad experience working on projects with sensitive environmental and heritage planning conditions, including a grade 2* listed historic gardens and parkland.

The company offers a holistic design service, being involved from concept through to completion of the project. They work closely with architects and interior designers to ensure there is harmony between the interior and exterior living spaces. During the build, they will work with landscape contractors and other specialists to ensure the garden is built to an exacting standard and quality. Once completed they maintain a close relationship with their clients to ensure the garden is properly maintained allowing it to mature and develop beautifully.

"For this garden in Highgate, the clients wanted a space where their extended family could come together, that complemented the bold contemporary architecture of the house and created what was to be the ‘best painting in the house’ when viewed from the full-width glass elevation of the ground floor.

The contemporary styling of the architect’s reimagined Arts and Crafts design is projected out into the garden, with strong clean lines in the hard landscaping softened with billowing and informal planting. As you step out of the house onto a wide terrace, a set of steps leads to a still, reflective water feature. A single giant stepping stone leads you across the water and into the rest of the garden. The branches of a multi-stem Zelkova serrata and the silhouettes of ferns and perennials are reflected in the surface of the water, creating a calm and tranquil atmosphere to a second terrace and informal seating area centred around a fire bowl. Surrounded by planting this terrace forms the main focus of the garden.

Opposite this is an island bed surrounded by a border of Belgian paving bricks and planted with a palette of textural greens and a single multi-stem Prunus serrulata Shiro-Fugen. A generous lawn with mixed herbaceous borders down each side leads to a secluded seating area at the rear of the garden. Nestled under a louvered pergola, this quiet spot affords a lovely view back across the garden and onto the rear of the house."
