Pelican House is a design studio dedicated to creating bespoke, hand-crafted rugs and textiles with a commitment to fair trade, luxury design, and excellent craftsmanship. By connecting conscious buyers, designers, and artisans, Pelican House elevates artisanal talents and adds deeper meaning to interior design projects. The studio offers customers complete control over their pieces through a collaborative approach.
Accountable, responsible, and sustainable by design, Pelican House selects suppliers on ethical grounds and collaborates with a community of responsible designers and artists. They work with NGOs such as Good Weave and Label Step to ensure artisans' interests are protected at every stage of the creation process. Pelican House strives for a world where consumers enjoy both ethical transparency and uncompromised style through the statement rugs they buy.

The inspiration for Wild Things emerged from a collaborative brainstorming session between Lucy, Jemima, and the team at Pelican House. The vision was to incorporate animals into the design, but not just any animals–mythical creatures that spark curiosity and imagination. When you gaze upon the figures, there’s an enchanting ambiguity. You'll find yourself questioning whether you can see a rabbit, a dog, or perhaps a blend of both.
As with many creative undertakings, Wild Things began with a map of ideas. The resulting piece is a tapestry of intricate, hand-braided jute, woven delicately by our highly skilled artisans, that forms swirling shapes, circles, zigzags, and other dynamic patterns. Each mythical animal and abstract form is meticulously stitched to accentuate the movement inherent in the design, bringing the entire piece to life with an energy that is totally unique.
Our in-house design team and rug specialists advise on design, colour, materials and size for a simplified custom process. We have a large archive of designs that can be adapted to create a rug that is perfectly tailored to your requirements."
