"The studio recently completed an interesting project for a young creative family who got in touch with a brief to turn their newly purchased four story townhouse into a striking home inspired by their love of art, especially surrealism and the avant-garde.

The project involved a substantial reimagining of the whole property, that required both interior design and architectural expertise. We led a team of around 25 specialists to coordinate the exterior renovation and landscape design as well as the full interior design of the house. As the couple desired a progressive ‘smart home’ the latter required integrating smart lighting, heating, audio, security, media, and window treatments alongside the traditional technical considerations and softer touches.

Given the wife’s formative training as an artist and her present role as a curator, the couple were keen to commission handmade pieces that were imbued with personal meaning and symbolism. Much of the home was a process of collaboration and we worked with some truly talented artists and artisans to produce one of a kind pieces. Some of the most imaginative being a serpentine ouroboros door knocker, an Aldo Rossi meets Deco harlequin marquetry sideboard, sliding shoji wardrobes, a meticulously hand painted fridge inspired by the intricate architecture of the Alhambra, an anthropomorphic garden chaise longue with a cheeky golden nipple, and an abstract mosaic on the roof terrace that mirrors the sunset and sun rise at dusk and dawn.

We also collaborated with a great architectural practice to create a unique verdigris and copper clad extension and garden canopy inspired by folded origami forms."
