About Us

KLN is a multidisciplinary architecture and interior design studio with an appreciation of both rural and urban settings. The company's ethos incorporates context, its changing environment, the people using and interacting with its buildings and spaces, and the combination of traditional elements with modern technologies. The team's aim is to create beautiful, energy-efficient buildings that age gracefully.

The founder of KLN, Karl Normanton, is a RIBA Chartered Architect with many years of professional experience both in the UK and Hong Kong. Karl brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the demands of planning requirements for sensitive projects often involving listed buildings and their setting

A small team at KLN work on residential and commercial projects with a wide range of trusted consultants and contractors. The compay's approach to every project is tailored to the client’s needs and aspirations whilst working hard to design within the client’s budget. Its interior designs strive to add layers of beauty and comfort as well as functional solutions – creating spaces that are effortless to live in. The team is inspired by the possibilities of new recycled materials constantly being developed, whilst remaining drawn to natural materials. The company is passionate about improving people’s quality of life through design as well as the sustainable improvement of their built environment.

How would you describe your style?

"Every client and every site are different each with their own characteristics, so in turn every building should be unique. This is why we have an ‘approach’ rather than a style, with sustainability underpinning all that we do."

"Below are a small selection of images from several of our recent architecture and interiors projects, including an interior renovation of a 1970s property in Hertfordshire, and phase one and two of a project in Suffolk beside the river Alde in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For the first phase, we designed contemporary timber-clad buildings linked to the original red brick cottage at a low level to create a unique family home maximising views of the landscape. The second phase involved the renovation and conversion of the circular Lime Kiln outbuilding."
