About Us

Based in the estate yard at Arundel Castle in West Sussex, Classic Mantels have been handcrafting beautiful fireplaces in wood and stone for almost three decades now. We are proud to be a long-established English maker.

Our small team of experienced artisans take time and care to create bespoke fire surrounds using only the finest natural materials and traditional craft techniques. We are unique in running both stone and joinery shops, allowing us to make surrounds in both natural stone and wood. We do have a range of popular classic designs, but almost everything we make is bespoke.

Classic Mantels work with private clients, leading interior designers and architects, and also make fire surrounds for many leading fireplace brands.

What services do you provide?

How would you describe your style?

"Our handcrafted fireplaces build on a tradition dating back to the Georgian era and the work of Robert Adam, John Sloane and William Kent. Styles may have changed over the years, but at Classic Mantels we still use traditional artisan techniques to hand make our fireplaces."

Please describe a recently completed project or tell us about the bespoke service that you offer

"We have a range of popular fireplace designs, but most of the work we do is bespoke. It might be as simple as changing the dimensions of a surround or specifying a different material, or making a fireplace to a unique design supplied by a private client, architect or interior designer.

Handcrafting a ‘one off’ fireplace for a client is one of the most rewarding parts of our work. We are unique in maintaining both a stone yard and a joinery shop in West Sussex, allowing us to hand-make fireplaces in both stone and wood. You are always welcome to visit our workshop to see how we make our fireplaces."
