About Us

Barker Design has been creating homes that reflect their owners’ passions and style for more than a decade. Founder Justine Hodgson-Barker believes that the place in which you live or work should inspire, harmonise and ultimately make you happier, striving to push the boundaries in every design and create spaces that are every bit as individual as her clients.

Central to its design philosophy is the interpretation of the client’s brief to create original, eclectic interiors that surpass trends. Justine and her team draw upon the lifestyle and personality of the client, creating spaces where the story continues unfolding long after the Barker Design team has left. They aim to leave their clients with a place that will grow and change with them and their families whilst fulfilling all their practical needs.

How would you describe your style?

"Mixing up pieces from different eras and creating that uncontrived, eclectic look has become key to all Barker Design projects. We’re constantly on the hunt for new sustainable materials, vintage pieces and love working with local artisans and ‘up and coming’ product designers to create unique one-off pieces."

"For the first of these two projects we recently completed we were briefed with creating a ‘loved and lived in’ family home where we mixed contemporary & classic with a distinctly French feel. Keeping the overall style calm and relaxed with all the practicalities needed for a growing family. We enjoyed curating pieces from different eras with effortless style and WOW features to bring an element of fun to this design too.

The second brief called for a style that carefully curated furniture and objects from different eras to create an effortlessly cool eclectic vibe. We allowed the bones of the building to lead with a timeless backdrop in some spaces - enhanced with statement artwork and objects, whilst linking through to more maximalist spaces where layered lighting created a magical fun atmosphere in the evening.

The overall style compliments the fabric of the building whilst again fulfilling the practicalities of a growing family. It mixes elements of Arts & Crafts, Mid Century, refined industrial pieces, Retro, Art-Deco and LA/Palm-Springs style with vintage, new designer finds and local artisan pieces featured throughout.

For these projects, we provided our full interior design service. Bespoke to our client’s requirements, we manage every element from concept to completion, including furniture layout, bespoke joinery drawings, lighting plans, and Schedule of Works for Contractor quotation. Sourcing all furniture, fixtures & fittings, soft furnishings, accessories and overseeing the implementation of works."
