The brief was to re-instate an elegant London townhouse into a single dwelling for a family of three. The late Georgian house sits proudly on a square opposite the V&A Museum in South Kensington. Built in 1843, it held many original features, principally the stone cantilevered staircase, but had lost all fireplaces and original proportion through earlier conversion onto flats in the 1940’s. The brief centred around the principle residents; a photographer, a designer, and their grown up daughter and dogs. The main house was to include a collection of design and art pieces integral with their life and work, which would not be overpowered by over-embellishment or re-design for design’s sake. The basement was to be future proofed for separate utilities, whilst providing work space for the couple.
