About Us

The Colombia Collective works, designs and collaborates directly with artisan communities across Colombia to create sustainably sourced, beautifully crafted homewares and accessories. We believe that every home tells a story, and we want to share the magic of Colombia with homes and wardrobes around the world through hand-crafted designs that offer just as much soul, as they do style.

Founded in 2019, when our founder Kate Wrigley was living and working in Colombia as an architect for the Mayor of Bogota, after stumbling across some of the country’s incredible craftsmanship. She soon began to spend her weekends travelling to visit artisans along the country’s Caribbean Coast and fell in love with the beautiful techniques, communities and cultures that come with the craft. Amazed that their work remained largely unknown outside of their communities, she was determined to share the incredible stories and pieces she had discovered with friends back home.

Today, The Colombia Collective works directly with over 1500 artisans from 16 different communities across Colombia. Each of these has their own culture, identity and story that forms a fundamental part of their work. When starting

to work with a new community, we spend time with the artisans and their families to understand the stories and cultures of their craft and through constant collaboration and learning, we merge traditional techniques with modern design to create sustainably sourced, beautifully crafted homewares and accessories. We believe that every home tells a story, and we want to bring the magic of Colombia into homes and wardrobes around the world through hand-crafted designs that offer just as much soul, as they do style.

Our aim has always been to develop sustainable economic growth in rural areas whilst preserving ancestral craft cultures and techniques through design innovation and the increased value of craft. We believe that, alongside paying fair wages and ethical production, it is fundamental that the artisans are given pride and ownership of their work in order to keep these traditions alive; and that we as consumers truly value the time, knowledge and skill that goes into each and every piece.

Please describe a recently completed project or tell us about the bespoke service that you offer

"The creation of our latest collection has been extremely exciting for the whole team at The Colombia Collective as it has given us the opportunity to branch out into larger pieces and a more bespoke offering. Whilst we are most loved for our tableware collections including our intricately woven placemats and quirky napkin rings, we have now expanded our range to include glassware, ceramicware and most recently furniture and lampshades.

Our new furniture and lampshade collections are made to order in Colombia meaning that we can offer a bespoke colour range to individual customers. We are very proud to work directly with our artisans and being in constant contact provides us with a certain degree of flexibility for customer orders. As a small (but growing!) company we offer a level of individual service that larger companies may not be able to do and with this, we have built a very loyal customer base. Should you have any questions or queries about placing a bespoke order, we would be delighted to hear from you!"
