The clients loved their home and did not wish to move, however with three teenagers they found that they needed more space. Therefore the decision was taken to build down and form a basement beneath their lovely Edwardian home, creating a far more open-plan family-friendly environment where mum could cook while kids were doing homework or playing in the garden. Having a larger, relaxed dining area enabled the space to form a hub for the family as well as friends. We used LED soft glow spotlights to create a gentle yet effective flood of task lighting in the kitchen area. We left one wall as a natural brick to bring in a warm and relaxed ambience. The floor is a micro-concrete to make for seamless finish across a large span, bringing a calmness to a busy home. The clients had a great sense of humour which is highlighted through their fun artwork.
