About Us

Anam is an interior architecture and design studio, specialising in residential, hospitality and commercial interior projects, and furniture design. It is run by partners Liz Hughes and Alex Michell from their offices in Dublin and the South-East of England.

Anam was born from the founders' mutual respect for natural materials, Nordic style and comfort, Irish craftsmanship and modernist architecture. 'We started Anam to create something that had an honesty to it, a type of design that we both responded to. We wanted to create a company that reflected our own style— rather than fitting in, one that had its own identity.'

Anam Design Studio's distinct, yet complementary, backgrounds in interior design, architecture and industrial design bring a unique focus to each project, while remaining sensitive to the client's aesthetic and practical requirements.

How would you describe your style?

"The spaces we create imbue both calmness and warmth. We minimise clutter through careful and subtle design, by layering textures and colours to make spaces inviting. Our approach is about considering each space as individual, whilst maintaining a holistic and coherent house style.

Natural materials feature strongly in our work— timber, stone and fabrics in neutral and warm tones.

We like to use local craftspeople for artwork and accessories where possible.

We also design an extensive amount of bespoke fitted and freestanding furniture for our projects."

"Anam was responsible for the design and project management of an extensive interior fit out for an overseas client. The newly built property is located in south Dublin and boasts spectacular views across Dublin Bay. Anam’s brief included decoration and bespoke joinery design throughout, kitchen and bathroom renovations, new bespoke master level with dressing room and ensuite with bespoke stone flooring and sanitary fittings."
