My brief was to work with the clients to help them achieve their vision for the house by putting together the paint colours, textiles, flooring and lighting, and liaising with the curtain maker, upholsterer and other craftspeople and tradespeople involved. The inspiration came from the spirit of the house and the client’s lifestyle and interests. The dining room walls are covered with a Mica wall covering complemented by curtains created from an embroidered shawl, combined with velvet and woollen fabrics. The drawing room, which is a sixteenth-century barn, proved to be a challenge due to the fact it is flooded with light from the double-height windows, which absorbs colour. The materials used there needed vibrancy and sheen, without looking crude. The solution was to combine satins, velvets and metallic materials with textured linens in vibrant colours that were reduced in the light conditions. My favourite finds were from Tissus d’Helene, Veere Grenney, Christian Ward Thomas, Best and Lloyd and Ochre.
