About Us

The Design Archives is the brainchild of Sharon Crowson whose family business, Crowson Fabrics, established in 1978, became one of the world’s leading producers, designers and suppliers of home furnishings. Sharon has taken on the huge archive of designs collected by her father and has created a range of collections, bringing to life some of the archive’s most beautiful designs. Printed on quality base cloths - linen, velvet and cotton sateen, all fabrics are developed and produced in the UK, and available via 5 showrooms across the USA. With distributors in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Las Vegas and Philadelphia established, now is the opportunity for designers to discover this unique gem of a British company.

How would you describe your style?

"The Design Archives is all about pattern, colour and texture. Working from the unique archive we are creating designs that reflect a classic British heritage but give them a contemporary twist with bold colouring which offers fantastic versatility in terms of scale and texture for the American market. Last year we launched the Shala Collection, three interesting and vibrant new textiles as well as the Birchgrove Collection, our first dedicated wallpaper collection featuring colourful reinterpretations of some of our most iconic designs."

"Seeing fabric on walls is something that Sharon originally encountered as a child visiting a house in the South of France, where she was entranced with the idea and the memory stayed on - the result being the bespoke paper-backed fabric wallcovering service. Re-energising this versatile product with traditional battening, the company is working on a number of projects globally which offers not only a colourful textured effect, using any of The Design Archive designs but also offers effective absorption of noise which is ideal for restaurants and hotels as well as private homes."
