About Us

A family practice, McLean Quinlan was founded in London in 1980. The studio creates distinct, beautifully crafted architecture in the town, the countryside, in the UK and overseas. The McLean Quinlan team loves what they do, delighting in the detail, the use of light and materials, the sensory, the tactile, and the making of spaces that age with grace. The practice's work is innovative, sustainable and responsible, employing the principles of Passivhaus, low-carbon materials and renewable technologies.

How would you describe your style?

"We create buildings that are beautifully designed and crafted. Each of our projects is a celebration of its place, respecting and complementing its environment.

Our designs are moulded by location and history, taking inspiration from vernacular traditions, materials and forms whilst meeting the highest standards for low energy use and efficiency.

Our 30 years of experience have taught us how to carefully inject the right combination of warmth, texture and light that gives a space a unique and tangible character."

"We are driven by working together and with you. For us, the process is a dialogue. We listen, earn trust and foster friendships, mindful that creating a home is a journey, an important life experience. Understanding the way you live and what you enjoy informs our thinking and enables us to design a home that is truly yours.

As architects, we are rigorous and determined throughout every stage of each project. We have vast experience, and a proven track record, and our award-winning architecture speaks for itself. Each of our buildings has a sense of belonging. Each one is a place to call home."
