Creating timeless, beautifully designed furniture is our passion. We believe in the excellence of British design and manufacturing, and that good quality furniture should be available to everyone.
We created Huckleberry to celebrate great British design, we believe in sustainability and a love of all things beautiful and useful. In an age where global mass-production has led to lower quality and indifferent design, we make considered and long-lasting furniture for now and future generations. As designers and creators, our ideas never stop flowing, and we delight in sharing and collaborating with others to create rooms that make the home a better place to live.
Distinctive Enduring Design: our influences come from classical and historic Georgian cabinetry with beautiful proportions – we love the ‘below stairs’ look and take inspiration from architecture, nature, art and history. The values of the Arts and Crafts movement inform our approach to design.
Quality British Craftsmanship: our furniture is designed and made to last a lifetime. We are proud to be part of the British furniture industry by making all our furniture at specialist workshops in the south of England. Our cupboards are made from a range of materials including poplar, solid oak dovetail wooden drawers, soft close runners and solid brass butt hinges.
Longevity and Sustainability: making furniture in the UK that lasts many years, even generations, makes it more sustainable. Our timbers are FSC certified, we reduce our footprint wherever we can and take care to use products that are as eco-friendly as possible within the industry. Any wood waste is reused or recycled.
Matt and Claire Podesta are the founders and creative team behind Huckleberry, with over 20 years of experience in design and manufacture in the kitchen and furniture industry, and in-depth knowledge of cabinet making and furniture design.
Our studio is in a barn near Thame, between the Chilterns and the Cotswolds, an area famous for its furniture and chair-making tradition. Working with private clients and design professionals, we design and make fitted and unfitted cabinetry and furniture for the whole house.

"Beginning the latest project in the renovation of their home the Castle of Trematon, owners of House of Hackney Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle approached Huckleberry to design and make a kitchen for the castle's lodge house. Huckleberry's Matt and Claire met Frieda and Javvy and quickly bonded over their shared ethos of sustainability and love of British-made design. And so the plan for the Quercus Lodge kitchen was born.
Quercus Lodge is a triangular Victorian building, located at the entrance to the castle with a completely unique atmosphere, decorated in the iconic House of Hackney style. Creating kitchen furniture for this project was exciting, especially incorporating the new range of House of Hackney paint and tiles. Huckleberry’s Scullery Bench has been given a House of Hackney twist. This includes a decorative frieze, which is used on the cooker hood, and finished off with hand-turned oak acorn finials.
‘Inspired by Georgian cabinetry and Arts and Crafts values, Huckleberry were the perfect people to create the kitchen for the Quercus Lodge,’ says Frieda Gormley. ‘With sustainability at the heart of the brand, their distinctive, enduring design, quality British craftsmanship and responsibly sourced wood ensure each piece is made to last a lifetime; and the results are truly beautiful.’”
