About Us
Harrison Spinks is a Leeds-based fifth-generation luxury bedmaker, which has been handcrafting British mattresses and beds since 1840. The family-run business is known as one of the most vertically integrated bed manufacturers in the world, with its award-winning innovations and sustainable ethos paving the way within the bed industry.
The brand is known for its innovative products that are designed with the environment in mind through all stages of production. From sourcing the materials ethically and locally to ensuring the components can be recycled at the end of their life.
Harrison Spinks mattresses are made with a unique spring system that contours to the body for unrivalled support and comfort while being entirely free from glue to remain recyclable. The wire for these springs is created from a unique grade of steel developed in partnership with British Steel. It is then drawn in-house to produce an ultra-fine-wire pocket spring with superior flexibility and strength, resulting in a high level of comfort. The business has also achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified accreditation to verify that all pocket springs produced are safe, sustainable, and ethically sourced, all while being economically circular through design and processing.
Every high-quality luxury mattress and bed is hand-crafted using responsibly sourced fillings, including hemp and flax grown on Harrison Spinks’ very own farm in North Yorkshire. These fibres are naturally super absorbent, durable, and antibacterial to produce a supple and breathable mattress filling that keeps the body cool, dry and comfortable.
In addition to its own farm, the brand sources traceable wool from UK farms in partnership with British Wool to create sumptuous mattress fillings with naturally hypoallergenic and fire-retardant properties.
The company also weaves its own FR chemical-free mattress ticking fabric in-house using traditional methods and state-of-the-art weaving looms. The fabric is naturally fire-retardant, creating a sleep surface designed for a peaceful night’s sleep, without the need for potentially harmful FR chemicals.
Harrison Spinks has been recognised with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in 2013 and 2018, Sustainable Development in 2013 and 2019, and International Trade in 2018. This year the business was also awarded two King’s Awards for Enterprise in Innovation and International Trade, bringing the total number won to seven.
