About Us

Principal designer David Keegan has been designing gardens for over 20 years. He oversees the design and creation of every project from the smallest to the very largest. Projects over the years have won numerous awards from national to international. He explains the design practice’s philosophy as follows.

"DK Design Associates' design philosophy centres around romantic naturalism. Every garden or landscape is in some way connected to the wider surrounding landscape, whether in the midst of the country surrounded by fields and trees or in the heart of a city surrounded by buildings and windows. There is a relationship in all things and poetry that is there to be teased out. If we have a style, it is aimed to tease that relationship out, making it part of the contextual affinity with the garden or landscape we are designing. That creates a verse that resonates in harmony with the surrounding environment.

Garden Design, Wildflower meadows and New Orchard design

How would you describe your style?

"Our style is very much based around the use of plants with hard landscaping used to both compliment and highlight the use of plants rather than plants as a complementary element in hard landscaping."

Please describe a recently completed project or tell us about the bespoke service that you offer

"We have recently completed the designs for a new sensory garden for the rangers’ offices in “Hollingsworth Lake Country Park” in Rochdale, Lancashire. Working with the park rangers and Rochdale council the designs will be installed over the coming months. Last year saw the completion of a 3.5-acre project with the design and installation of a new orchard set within a wildflower meadow. The project also included a roof garden and a minimalist rear garden complete with a stepped water feature. Another current project we are very excited about, a tropical oasis-style garden, is due to be installed imminently. The garden features a cantilevered platform complete with an outdoor kitchen, and interconnected floating platforms. Set through lush large leaf planting it will also feature a bespoke DK-designed water feature."
