About Us

Whilst living in the Swiss Alps and having just bought a chalet, Philippa Sedgwick struggled to find a curtain maker locally. Having always loved interior design and, determined to be able to create a beautiful family home, she decided to enrol on a curtain-making course back in the UK. Almost immediately upon beginning the course, she discovered a skill that would prove to be the greatest passion of her life, and she has not stopped sewing since.

Soon after, she set up her business and workrooms in a beautiful chalet in the Gstaad valley and has since worked on many extraordinary projects and developed relationships with a range of clients along the way. In 2017, she relocated back to the UK, bringing the business with her, and she now has an ever-growing roster of clients across London and the South East, while still continuing to work in Europe.

Philippa believes that the finest curtains and soft furnishings are made using the traditional methods of hand sewing. To guarantee lasting functional and aesthetic perfection for my work, she incorporates modern technology into these traditional methods - without compromising the beauty of a bespoke, hand-made product.

Her design and style aesthetic is one of understated, contemporary elegance and showcases the influences of a childhood spent in Africa and then subsequently living in Switzerland and England. Philippa has an unwavering commitment to hand-sewn perfection, and she combines this with a unique, fresh approach for each client, ensuring her signature style of elegance and refinement.

Each client, each window and each curtain represents a labour of love and all works are made with the same attention to detail.

How would you describe your style?

"Running my workrooms means that I am always led by my client's brief, and I work on so many varied projects that encompass many, many different styles. I would describe my personal style as understated, sophisticated and elegant and I always try to incorporate this into my work."

"One of my favourite recent projects was the total remodelling and design of a townhouse in Chelsea, London. The client approached me directly to make all the window dressings for the house and asked me to work in conjunction with her interior designers. It was a challenge in terms of wanting to make sure that I could make the designer's vision become a reality, while at the same time bringing a little of my own style to the project, which is what my client wanted. The quality of my works was paramount.

Whilst the façade of the property was traditional, the inside of the property was completely re-built to the point where all that was left of the house were the four external walls. My client wanted traditionally made window treatments, but wanted them to still be in keeping with the new modern interior. My works incorporated the installation of a very large motorised blind to cover a glass retracting ceiling, motorised sheer roller blinds for privacy in every room, traditional roman blinds and curtains and pelmets.  Choosing the fabrics for all of these works was a curtain makers dream.

As well as working with the designers, I also worked closely with all contractors on-site in order to co-ordinate and ensure that the project was completed on time and on budget.  Something which I am proud to say I succeeded in doing. One of the best parts of this project was seeing how delighted the client was with the end results and knowing that I had achieved my brief from her."
