"We were commissioned to convert 3 separate penthouse apartments into one penthouse. The client wanted a home which was luxurious and timeless as well as bold and dramatic, so all the elements needed to marry together. As we were required to join 3 existing apartments it was crucial to create flow from one to another as we wanted the transition to be seamless. The main living space was pinpointed as the heart of this home and so this is where the design process started. As the space already had dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows which curved around the room and overlooked the city the initial focus was to enhance this existing feature and echo this drama throughout the rest of the design. We incorporated a hammered brass wall which plays with the light pouring through the double-height windows and wrapped existing double-height columns with nickel collars. As the columns were structural and could not be removed it was imperative to tie these into the design. We did this by designing a bespoke curved walnut staircase which we framed with polished nickel spindles to pull everything together."
