How would you describe your style?

We have no set style, approaching each project with an open mind, but we like to create layered interiors that are comfortable and tactile, connected to a time and tradition. Most of our work is for historic or classical properties, whether they be Tudor, Art Deco or 21st century new build, and we understand how to enhance period character through the use of appropriate form, texture and colour.

The brief for this Tudor house was to make it a more practical and comfortable home for a young family and blend new elements seamlessly with old. Working with an architect, we designed an extension to the old service wing to create a new informal sitting room, cloakroom and utility room and enlarged the kitchen. We also sourced furniture and furnishings for the existing house. The new sitting room extension had a high pitched roof, so to create a comfortable and intimate space, texture and warm colours were key. Old oak fragments were made into a chimneypiece, with new wall panelling to unify the design. In the kitchen, with its uneven walls and low ceiling and windows, the scheme was brighter to bring more light into the room and we designed handmade kitchen cabinetry as well as furnishings and fittings that were in keeping. The master bedroom was conceived as a restful space. A four poster bed, fitting the room’s high proportions, was simply dressed in a floral linen, against a background of richly glowing antiques, de Gournay wallpaper panels and Chinese silk paintings.
