About Us

William Woods Interior Design was formed in the 1960s by William Woods, during the early days when 'interior design' was beginning to be recognised as a profession. William became an original fellow of BIDA (British Interior Design Association) at its inception. This professional trade body is now known as the BIID. The practice is now directed by William's daughter, Sarah Woods, and has become a nationally recognised, award-winning firm.

From a young age, Sarah always had a passion for fabrics and dreamt of becoming an interior designer. This passion took root at the tender age of eight when she often accompanied her father to work during the holidays. Clearly inheriting her father's flair and skill for design, Sarah pursued higher education, achieving First Class Honours in English and History after her father encouraged her to complete a "proper degree." She extended her studies at the renowned KLC Interior Design School in Chelsea Harbour, London. Following her time there, she was head-hunted to work for a prestigious firm in London. However, after a brief period, she chose to further her design education within the family business, with her father as her mentor. To this day, William proudly states that Sarah is a more accomplished designer than he ever was, a claim her substantial order book supports.

In addition to her design work, Sarah is also the buyer and product designer at Woods Fine Linens. She plays a significant role in all aspects of the luxury products that Woods produces and sells. With the company's history in fine linens dating back to 1733, there is an abundant reservoir of knowledge and expertise to draw from.

Identifying a market gap to provide complete interior design schemes down to the very last detail, Sarah and William introduced their line of customisable bed linen, towels, mats, bath robes, duvets, and pillows. This addition complements the outstanding traditional kitchen and table linens that Woods already produced.

Within the industry, William has earned a reputation amongst his peers as the 'doyen' of the linen world. Woods is celebrated for upholding qualities reminiscent of a bygone era. Their dedication was recently recognised with a visit from the Princess Royal.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of serving a diverse clientele, including royalty and celebrities. Regardless of their status, every client receives the "Woods treatment" - meticulous attention to detail, honoured promises, and earned satisfaction.

How would you describe your style?

"For her tender years, Sarah is a specialist in period interior design, country house glamour which looks naturally evolved by the client over many years, not designed!"
