About Us

Original BTC manufactures sophisticated designer lighting in Britain, balancing traditional and contemporary aesthetics. Their handmade lights enrich homes and commercial spaces worldwide by creating a beautiful, functional illumination and adding depth with their meticulous finishes.

Original BTC was founded in 1990 by Peter Bowles. Design, quality and attention to detail are at the forefront of the products they produce. Two additional brands are included under the Original BTC umbrella, the heritage marine lighting brand ‘Davey Lighting’ and LED lighting specialist ‘Beadlight’, bringing with them their products, skills and facilities.

Original BTC own six production facilities dedicated to their designs; these include a ceramics factory, glass factory and metal works. Their HQ and assembly factories are based in Oxfordshire where Original BTC was founded.

Original BTC’s founder, Peter Bowles, was one of the first designers to capture the appeal of industrial styling – and his relaxed, familiar lighting is driven by a family heritage of design steeped in manufacturing and business. Quality and mix of materials are key. Bone china, glass and metal shades are paired with polished, satin, chromed or bone china bases, offset by the brand’s signature cotton braided flex. The comprehensive catalogue includes utilitarian, statement and stripped back designs, united by a focus on longevity, craft and a passion for pushing the boundaries of production.

A world-class source of British-made lighting, the group has over 1,000 designs to choose from and supplies lights across the globe with an emphasis on the hotel, restaurant and aeronautical industries. Lights are sold through six standalone showrooms at London's Design Centre in Chelsea Harbour, as well as in Paris, New York, Taiwan, and Munich.

With its own bone china, glass, metal and LED production facilities and its team of in-house designers, Original BTC can customise lights to suit individual projects.

Original BTC has supplied lights for many of the world’s most famous buildings, from Battersea Power Station to The Royal Academy and The Empire State Building. Hotel projects include The Hoxton Paris, The Soho House Group, Firmdale Hotels and The Ace Hotels in London and New York. Restaurants include Galvin’s, Hawksmoor and Mama Shelter, and Harrods Food Hall. Read more about their previous projects on Original BTC’s journal.
