About Us

Westbury is a designer, planner and manufacturer of bespoke glazed and timber buildings including orangeries, conservatories, garden rooms, kitchen extensions and pool houses. Founded in 1988 by Jonathan Hey, Westbury remains a family run business based in Essex, working across the UK and Internationally. From the initial consultation to the final coat of paint, every step is undertaken by the company's own in-house team.

We are ambitious and innovative, continually developing our products to ensure that they are of excellent quality, efficiently produced and environmentally friendly. We truly understand timber and as experts in the use of Accoya – a modified timber which is far more durable and sustainable than tropical hardwood – we can provide products that meet our eco-friendly objectives without compromising on quality or longevity.

Over the last 30 years we have earned an impressive reputation for outstanding architecturally led design, superior quality and ease of maintenance. With much of our work coming from personal recommendations, continuing to provide such a high-quality service, and thus preserving our reputation, is of the utmost importance.

How would you describe your style?

"We draw upon classic architectural principles in all our designs. We fully understand the concept of design unity ensuring our projects integrate scale, proportion, unity and grace, giving the finished design those elusive elements of true harmony and balance with the surrounding environment.

With no two buildings the same, we design garden rooms that are sympathetic to the individual home and well-suited to the homeowners needs. Our Garden Rooms are designed to be ‘living’ spaces in every sense of the word, often becoming the heart of the home, adding value not only to the property, but more importantly, to the homeowner’s way of life."

"Westbury has built a reputation for design, quality and innovation, transforming ordinary houses into extraordinary homes in every corner of the UK and all over the world. Westbury has even been recognised internationally for its stunning orangery addition to the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. We offer a bespoke design service which includes a designer visiting your home to discuss your ideas and gain a full understanding of your requirements and expectations. We will undertake a detailed survey, recording measurements and identifying any potential issues such as drainage, before providing a concept illustration and a detailed quotation.

We recognise that investing in a renovation project is a big decision, with concerns that need answering, which is why we’re so thorough even at this stage. Our aim is to help you visualise the finished building as best we can, and to provide a full and transparent cost estimate so that there are no surprises further down the line. Once you have decided to proceed with the build, your project gets passed to our project managers, who will ensure that it runs timely, smoothly and efficiently.

Our experienced CAD technicians will draw your project to scale clearly and accurately so that we can be sure that every aspect of the project is understood by all parties from local authorities, to bricklayers, yourselves, and your builders. If planning permission is required (it isn’t always) we will do all the paperwork on your behalf and keep you informed as it progresses. We will handle the legal paperwork that is needed, for example building regulations, SAP (heat loss) and structural engineer’s calculations.

Prior to the start of your project, a schedule will be drawn up and agreed with you. This will show you a detailed timeline of all aspects of the project.

All structural timber frames, windows and doors will be manufactured by our experienced craftsmen at the Westbury joinery factory. All timber components are pre-assembled, checked, painted and glazed at the workshop, before being packed and taken to site to be installed by our experienced fitters. This ensures maximum efficiency for us and minimum disruption to you."
