About Us

Flora Soames set up her design consultancy business in 2009. One of House and Garden’s Top 100, her discerning eye and instinct for channelling both old and new has been formed through a lifetime love of collecting furniture, textiles and accessories. With a background in both the furniture and art worlds, Flora’s design philosophy is based on retaining the essence of a building or interior whilst adapting the design in a way that is comfortable, stylish and practical. Her modern yet eclectic approach is key to translating and responding to each client’s needs with an emphasis on service, quality, craftsmanship and longevity.

"The brief for the project was to design an integrated space so that the family could occupy traditionally formal rooms in an informal manner. The clients had already lived in the property for a few years so the challenge, but also the advantage, was to work with some of their existing collection of furniture and art but adapt it to a new and reformulated layout. I was given free rein to put together a bold scheme, complementing some existing soft furnishings and inspired by much of the clients’ artwork. The clients were open to introducing an eclectic mix of fabrics and furniture which is very much in line with my signature aesthetic. The diverse nature of this project meant that it was a great opportunity to deliver an interior with an emphasis on quality, craftsmanship and longevity, which is something that I always strive to achieve. On this basis I turned to trustworthy and regular sources such as Claremont for fabrics, Talisman for furniture and a traditional upholsterer in East Anglia with whom I have worked for many years for bespoke pieces."
