"What was once two adjacent Notting Hill mews houses became an elegant and very functional family home of over 4,000 sqft. In order to accommodate the family’s requirements, the space was doubled by digging a basement and adding a mansard to the top of the property. Directed by the project brief, we had a blank canvas on which to work; only the front elevation needed to be kept. To make the most of the natural light, the outlook and the access to terraces, the living space was put on the top two floors with the bedrooms on the ground floor. The basement is home to a media room, gym, study, laundry and lots of well-planned storage. There is a dumb waiter running from top to bottom of the house. Two working gas fireplaces with bespoke marble mantles were added to the house to enhance the sense of elegance and provide ambience during the gloomy winter months. Natural stone, timber and an array of textures and fabrics were used in abundance, along with unique light fittings. Custom upholstered sofas were commissioned and sit comfortably beside mid-century and vintage pieces of furniture. Twentieth-century art adds further colour and reflects the personality of the owners. There is custom-designed joinery throughout and endless attention to detail. The result is an elegant and very welcoming family home"
