Michaelis Boyd collaborated with a private developer on the design of two luxury homes on Campden Hill Road in Notting Hill. A two-storey 1950s building was demolished to create two identical new build semi detached villas, spread over 5,500sq ft and five storeys. Despite their period appearance, the new homes incorporate the highest standards of modern construction whilst keeping the appearance of an elegant Victorian townhouse to stay faithful to the area’s heritage. Natural light floods through the windows and the glass walls, bringing the outside in and complimenting the natural materials such as oak, bronze, brass, stone and Carrara marbles that have been used throughout the properties. The interiors have the Michaelis Boyd signature of maximising space and light, created by lightwells, crittall glass walls and huge bay windows. With the luxury of so many floors, Michaelis Boyd assigned a function to each storey to avoid over-crowding the space and keep it open and flowing. The top three floors of the house contain the bedrooms and bathrooms, while the living room inhabits the ground floor. Below is the lower-ground kitchen and dining area and finally the basement, which houses a 12m swimming pool, steam room, chillout area and staff bedrooms. The gardens were designed in collaboration with the Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner Philip Nixon.
