How would you describe your style?

We do not have a practice style, we specialise in being thorough and knowledgeable and we do not impose. The design of each project is specific to the client and the property‚ DNA. The design is an interpretation and development of what the client wants and we always start the process with a hand sketch. By combining traditional and contemporary style with bespoke detailing and a touch of humour, we create interiors that are beautiful, refined and visually dramatic whilst also being practical, relaxed and comfortable.

K&H redecorated this country home for a young family. It was a wonderful opportunity to take an empty house and create the atmosphere of an established and totally personal family home of many years. The house is formed of two halves‚ the original Georgian rectory and a more recent substantial extension. We imagined the Georgian pallet for the 21st century. We created an understated calm and gentle backdrop using environmentally friendly paints. All the floors were re-finished to mute the tones and enhance the timber character. To create a sophisticated and timeless design, we mixed antiques and classical oils with more contemporary artworks and mid-century collectibles. We source worldwide to find unique pieces and to avoid repetition of the more obvious finds. The end result is definitely not stuffy or museum like. Bespoke upholstery, ensuring comfort and perfect scaling for the room and the user, are stylistically understated rather than over designed. A real home. Design is in the detail be it aesthetic or practical. For instance, in the breakfast room, we chose the highly collectible Niels Moller dining chairs and paired them with Rose Uniake Draper Table. However, as these mid-century chairs were 3 cm too low the table height was reduced for perfect comfort.
