Charles started his career as an antique dealer in the 1970s, which allowed him to build an extensive knowledge of antique lighting and an eye for significant pieces. In 1992 following a conversation with renowned designer David Easton, Charles agreed to replicate one of his lanterns, leading to the design and manufacture side of the business. Since then, the collection has evolved to over 400 designs and today Charles Edwards is considered one of the leading designers and manufacturers of 19th and 20th Century inspired English, French and American lighting. Charles Edwards is located at 582 & 575 King’s Road, London, where the collection is exclusively displayed.
Working with your individual specifications the studio tailors the permanent collection created by Charles to your exact needs. Each light is hand made to order and can be customised in size, design detail, finish, and electrification. The numerous options available ensure that you can achieve the desired look for your lantern, from traditional to contemporary. Each piece bears the hallmarks of authenticity, quality, and craftsmanship.

"Handmade in brass, all designs can be finished in any of our metal finishes, or in any paint colour you wish to specify. Hand applied in our London workshop, subtle variations in tone are an inherent characteristic of our finishes, ensuring each piece is as unique as the interior scheme it is destined for. Finish combinations are also available in a colour scheme of your choice. You may choose from a metal/metal, metal/paint, or paint/ paint combination.
We offer a custom sizing service on our entire range. All designs can be either rescaled proportionally, or a particular dimension can be changed, such as increasing the height only. Hanging lanterns, chandeliers and shade lights can all be customised to hang in a tiered configuration, perfect for double height spaces or stairwells. You can combine the same design, different sizes, or different designs with as many tiers as you like.
We also accept commissions to create an entirely new design not from our collection."
