Clapham Old Town, as seen in images one to three:

"The client, an interior designer, asked us to redesign both her front and rear gardens. At the front, the awkward boundaries, uneven sloping front path and failing lawn were addressed by adding slatted trellis panels, a low retaining wall and an additional step, and four generous borders.  We also create a more discreet area for the bin store at the lower level.  The white glazed urn, sourced by the client, acts as the central focal point in this north facing garden.  It is planted with a combination of Hydrangea paniculata ‘Limelight’, and a seasonal mix of shade tolerant ferns and perennials.  The gravel allows for fluid circulation and ease of access for maintenance.

The south facing rear garden was also in poor repair, unloved or maintained for years with no cohesive planting or definition to speak of.  We reconfigured the steps that link the kitchen to the upper garden level, created symmetry by repeating existing features, added a D-shaped paved area in the shade for afternoon tea and a paved moving strip to the lawn.   The borders were replanted with a combination of sun loving shrubs and perennials.  Both areas successfully create a sense of welcome calm and give the house the green embrace and emphasis it previously lacked."

Bayswater Garden, as seen in images four to eight:

"The brief for the ‘Ribbon Wheel Garden’ was to create a purposeful, inviting garden where family and friends can dine and relax, with space to entertain.  We responded by creating an intricate series of ten interlinking paved circles, each one different in design and scale, specifying a variety of Limestone and Yorkstone setts, pitchers, cobbles and sawn radial cut stone.  A continuous band of cobbles connect the circles, creating the ribbon-like effect.  We sourced magnificent, oversized circular copper planters to sit in the centre of most of the circles.  A selection of multi-stem Silver Birch trees were specified to create green leafy vertical emphasis with a backdrop of Yew hedging for privacy.  These were combined with shade tolerant planting and Beech domes to create dynamic low-level year round interest. A beautiful antique stone trough was found to create a water feature, with antiqued mirrored trellis panels above to catch the reflection and twinkly light from the water below. The garden won multiple awards including a BALI ‘Principal’ Award for construction by ‘The Outdoor Room’ and the Society of Garden Designers Awards for both the ‘Small Residential Garden’ and ‘Hardscape’ categories."
