About Us

Located in the heart of the beautiful city of Cambridge, Nicola Sanders established Studio Sanders in 2016 following a degree in History of Art & Architecture, a decade in London and a career working on high-end interior design magazines. The studio is less than an hour from central London and we happily take on projects throughout the UK.

We combine a love of art and antiques with an imaginative approach to colour, print and texture to interpret client briefs as warm, original spaces that are as comfortable as they are practical. We work on both residential and small commercial projects, drawing on the skills of trusted suppliers, artisans and specialists.

We believe deeply in the power of our homes to make us happy and productive, and to shape and support our lives. Created thoughtfully, they allow us to engage with objects that interest us – perhaps books, furniture, art or textiles – and offer a backdrop that is both joyous and functional.

Working on a limited number of projects at a time with clients who are curious about the design possibilities of their home ensures a thorough understanding of every brief and a deep personal connection to each project.

How would you describe your style?

"We design timeless, liveable spaces for design-curious individuals; always colourful, characterful, and filled with warmth and comfort."

Please describe a recently completed project or tell us about the bespoke service that you offer

"We recently completed a five-bedroom country property that had been more than two years in the planning, working collaboratively with the owners to bring their forever home to life.

We were involved from the pre-planning phase of the project, consulting on exterior details, from window placement to roof tiles and render colour. Once the building phase began, we designed and coordinated all internal finishes, commissioned bespoke sofas, furniture, rugs, headboards and soft furnishings, designed window treatments, and provided intent elevation drawings to be taken forward with the specialist joinery workshop commissioned separately by our clients. A number of key furniture pieces or accessories were existing possessions, and it was important to work these into the new schemes so that the results felt very much like home.

The results are a warm and welcoming family home, full of life and character – an original blend of classic sensibility with a fresh approach to colour, pattern and texture."
