About Us

British lighting designer and manufacturer Original BTC was founded in 1990 by Peter Bowles, and has since grown to become The Original BTC Group, including heritage marine lighting brand Davey Lighting and LED lighting specialist Beadlight.

Instantly comfortable and unassumingly elegant, Original BTC designs and manufactures relaxed, familiar interior lighting. Quality and mix of materials are key. Bone china, glass and metal shades are paired with polished, satin, chromed or bone china bases, offset by the brand’s signature cotton braided flex. The comprehensive catalogue includes utilitarian, statement and stripped back designs, united by a focus on longevity, craft and a passion for pushing the boundaries of production.

Innovation, authenticity, attention to detail and the finest materials are hallmarks across The Original BTC Group. A champion of ‘Made in Britain’, the family-run company owns five UK production facilities, including a Stoke-on-Trent bone china factory and Birmingham-based glassworks and metalworks. Production capabilities range from centuries-old glassblowing and brass, copper and aluminium metalworking techniques to the latest in LED innovation.

A world-class source of British-made lighting, the group has over 1,500 designs to choose from and supplies lights across the globe with an emphasis on the hotel, restaurant and aeronautical industries. Lights are sold through four standalone showrooms at London's Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, as well as in Paris, New York and Taiwan.

"With its own bone china, glass, metal and LED production facilities and its team of in-house designers, Original BTC is able to customise lights to suit individual projects.

Original BTC was commissioned to create the interior lighting for Belmond’s Grand Hibernian, a luxury train traversing Ireland’s coastline.  Combining the capabilities of all four factories, Original BTC designed and manufactured the decorative lighting for the passenger cabins, saloon bar, two restaurant cars and communal areas. Over 230 bespoke lights were supplied, including bone china and hand-blown opal glass and desk, wall and ceiling lights, chrome picture lights and bedhead reading lights, and a variation on the classic Davey Pillar wall light.  All lights were designed specifically to withstand close proximity to passengers and the vibrations of the train, and included integral Beadlight-designed and engineered LEDs, blending modern luxury with traditional design.

Original BTC has supplied lights for many of the world’s most famous buildings, from Battersea Power Station to The Royal Academy and The Empire State Building.  Hotel projects include The Hoxton Paris, The Soho House Group (most recently Soho Farmhouse and Cecconi's Brooklyn), Firmdale Hotels and The Ace Hotels in London and New York. Restaurants include Galvin’s, Hawksmoor and Mama Shelter, and Original BTC has provided lighting for the recently-refurbished Harrods Food Hall."
